Food was great service was great. Very friendly and they have a delicious PHO broth. We probably waited five minutes before our food was served fresh and hot. Not our first time here and definitely not our last. They also serve Vietnamese beef, pork or chicken sandwiches. If you've never had one, try it.

¡Pho-nominaL! The Pho from here is like an elixir from God to cure my cold!! I left here feeling like a million bucks after feeling like under the weather for a week!! I got the rare beef bowl/large and it was amazing! I never thought I would like soup soo much! The shrimp and pork soft roll was good too with the peanut sauce with a dash of hot chilli sauce. I can't wait to come back!

Shared a large portion pho, with extra noodles with my kid. My only issue is the waiters that bring out your food hang out right outside the front door smoking, in my opinion its digusting to have the staff smoking right in front of the building. If I go again I'll just get take out.

This is the best Pho in Virginia Beach for sure, and maybe in all of the south side. Maybe in all of America. No seriously! The owner is super friendly and you can tell he puts his heart into this place. I eat here at least once a week so I think the staff probably recognize me now! Yeah I'm that person who always orders the same thing so the owner already knows what I want -- but hey, when I find a good thing I like to stick with it. First the pho broth is just amazing. It's the BEST broth. You can tell he makes it the authentic way with bones and seasonings and slow cooked with love. As my southern grandma would say "he put his foot in it!" Some pho places you get semi-seasoned chicken or beef broth and you can see the oil in it but I can tell you this is not how the broth is made here! No oil! You also get an abundant amount of fresh and crispy Thai basil, sprouts, lime, jalepeño and veggies and even a side salad with fish sauce dressing. I also always order the egg rolls which come with 4 in an order even though most places only give two per order and for the same price. These are also better than most pho places in the area, with great flavor and always cooked perfectly. My favorite pho is the beef brisket with flank and tendon but honestly you can't go wrong with any of them because the broth is the same for all and it's so wholesome I could (and have) just had the broth by itself when I was feeling sickly and just needed something comforting, simple and delicious. Tip: Be careful about ordering over the phone-- one time I ordered take out and the person taking the order was not the owner and he missed half of our order. But I forgave them and came back 4 days later bc it's just THAT good! I drive from Chesapeake past all the other pho places just to come here. Try it and you won't be able to look at pho the same!

I wish I could rate no stars because I'm still so livid on my recent experience here. I don't have high expectations for customer service. We're all human and sometimes people have bad days, I get it. That being said, the service here was so bad I'm never returning. I've eaten at Pho 78 quite a few times over the years. The food is your basic Vietnamese fare, nothing more, nothing less. It's close, conveniently located, and fast. My former "go-to" for rainy day cravings. My last visit was a disaster. First of all, the employee who was dressed like he was going to a disco had so much attitude trapped in his bell-bottoms, it rose up to his face and made him roll his eyes when I asked for a to-go cup for my coffee. The second employee who ran us our food spoke to us in angry grunts. I don't think he spoke English, which is fine, but I don't know why he was mad at me about it. He was the one who brought my cup out and slammed it in front of me. I wish I was exaggerating. These two were already cold, even before I made the mistake of asking for my to-go container. I think I offended them by patronizing their business, so needless to say, I'll never return. Pho Dalat is better anyway.

I have eaten at Pho 78 roughly 10 times and I have never been let down. You can get in and out fairly quickly without breaking the bank. The atmosphere is charming and the owner along with his wait staff are on top of things. This is my number one choice for pho because the broth is free of MSG. Hooray for not dying when eating pho! Looking forward to my next visit!

Pho 78 serves great tasting Vietnamese food. They have an extensive menu for everyone. The quality of the food is top notch. The place is very clean and how fast your food comes out will surprise you.

Want to update some food I always order. Food is still great along with customer service. Something good. Pho combo with beef, tripe, and beef balls. Spicy beef soup is pretty good as well. Could be more spicy Spring rolls and fries egg rolls are always good start off.

Just finished eating some Pho at this joint...all I can say is DELISH. Great Chicken Pho and spring rolls. I'll be back with re-enforcements to explore some more of the menu.

  • Bruce K.

Pho tastic? Un pho gettable? Pho sure? Pho nominal? Pho bulous? Yes, some pho puns for you because the pho here was delish. Rich and tasty broth in my Pho Ga that was loaded with chicken and veggies and noodles. A quick squirt of sriracha that I mixed in with the fresh basil and bean sprouts and squeezed lemon (no lime, I guess). Mmmmm... yummy in my tummy. Service was great from the waiter/manager down to the guy who cleared our table and spoke no English. The only dent in the surface is that we didn't want to sit where they initially wanted to put us - in the middle of the room. There was a little push back when we headed to a table over on the side. CHEAP! And delicious. Good stuff, I hope to be back soon!

Very Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine. I usually get the Pho or Broken Rice dishes. The spring roll with the peanut sauce is really good, or try the fried egg rolls. The prices for the food is fair, but high for the drinks!

Love love this pho, best in town hands down. And any other meal there is fabulous. Not to happy with any of the other pho restaurants. Here u have ur order fast, hot, and friendly. Very family orientated, and a wide range of food for any picky eater. Never any problem to omit some small item if it isn't ur thing. Best pho in the Hampton roads area.

Thai tea tasted sour(bad milk?), egg rolls were okay and the beef stew tasted like it was def not fresh. I work at a place where the chef always cooks this beef stew so I can tell me when it's good and when it's been sitting for days

Pretty bomb pho place. I've been here quite a few times and have not been disappointed! The atmosphere is friendly and they run sport center religiously, which adds on to my experience! Definitely give it a try!

Since I posted my review a couple years ago I've been back a few times and have had similar experiences. It's been soups a couple of times but last night I was really hungry and was craving spring rolls, rice and soup. So I got all three. - Spring rolls - geez, you can't beat the peanut sauce. These wraps tasted good. A little on the messy side. Decent overall. - Pho soup - I couldn't do an entire bowl and still order a meal so I asked for the kids bowl even though I'm way past 12 (although I can look it). The guy taking my order looked at me like I was nuts but I told him I was ordering the entire menu so he was cool with it. I swear the menu said beef but somehow I had chicken in my bowl. It was only $4.95 but I would have rather gone for a small bowl for $3 more with all the Pho fixings (tendon, flank, etc.) and have leftovers. - I ordered their sampler platter as my main dish. It had the rice I wanted, came with an fried spring roll, chicken wing and a grilled pork chop. The spring roll and chicken wing were okay but I really enjoyed the grilled pork chop. My buddy came along and this was his first time having Pho and he was quite impressed. Looks like him and I will be doing a tour of Asian foods. A good start for him. As for me, I've had lots of different Vietnamese restaurants over the last couple years so this place makes for a good spot because it's convenient and the food seems to be A-OK with me.

Yesterday I went for lunch and I had the steak Pho there yesterday. Very fresh and hot broth, plus great cuts of beef and all that you can handle, jalapeño slices. Perfect lunch with unbeatable price

I came with family on a Thursday during lunch time and it wasn't packed at all. We were seated and we wanted someone to sit at the end of the table but he rudely said no to us. The food was mediocre, very small portions for that price. Although the food came out pretty quickly, I wouldn't have minded waiting for better quality food.

Good service & good food. There was quite a few customers but they were able to give us everything quickly, and everything was delicious. I will definitely come back! :)

love coming here every time i visit VA beach. i got the vermicelli combo with spring rolls and pork chop. unfortunately the pork chop isn't the same as the grilled pork chop over rice that my bf had and i was sad. i liked his pork chop better. maybe next time i can ask the waiter to use that one instead. i love the spring rolls here, bf loves the summer rolls and always get that and the grilled pork chop over rice. last time i had pho and it was good. next time i will try out the other dishes. this place is huge and the staff is very friendly. i also see regular customers coming here and the staff already knows what they want and puts their orders in once they walk in the door which is awesome.

This was my first time back in about 6 years. I wasn't impressed several years ago and the same holds true now. I believe the root of my opinion has a lot to do with the service. The place appeared clean. Food consistent as it was several years ago. I was with a group of 10 and came in late. I waited so long..... I mean, I waited so long for everything. I went up and got my own menu. I went up and placed my order and additional drink orders for people at the table. I ordered soft spring rolls, a beer, and kids size rare beef pho. I also asked for the fixins on the side. All of the food was great. I actually loved their peanut sauce over others I've had. Maybe it was me but, anything and everything we/I asked for was more of an inconvenience than anything. I did not feel welcomed & was looking for a nice relaxing dinner. I wanted to at least be treated with some appreciation that I took my precious time to choose this establishment to spend my hard earned money on after a long week. People who own businesses need to realize it is the customer who are their bread and butter. I wanted another beer but, didn't want to drop another penny. I know this is not a platinum plate establishment and heck, I don't even know if I should have expected anyone to come to our table to take my order or even ask if we wanted more drinks so, maybe I'm out of line for expecting such service or courtesy when dining out...at a "restaurant". Our food was brought to our table in a timely fashion!!! So, this was a treat! I went up to pay the bill (oh..and don't wait for anyone to bring you your check either) and a to-go container for my left over Spring Roll. By the time I got back to the table, my spring roll was thrown away!!!! I almost had a hissy fit!! LOL Instead, I resolved with clinched teeth and was given another spring roll for my Scooby snack. :) People at my table were checking to ensure they gave me a new roll. Pet peeve - Never....EVER touch or put hands near my food until I confirm I'm done or have exited the building. Well... Good luck to this spot. They've done well all of these years and I'm sure they will continue to do so. If you're in it primarily for the food...great! For me, never again. I need the complete package. I've been treated better at fast food establishments.

Great decoration, fast service! The waiter can come off rude, but he always seems to be in a rush! But great food and prices!

Love this place!! It is close to my house which makes it even better. The people that work in there are awesome and always so friendly. Kids are welcome which is great too. The establishment is very clean and service is fast and yummy. I always get the #13 on the menu; however, recently I tried a dish that didn't have noodles, more like a salad and it was delicious. The spring rolls are great too. The portions are HUGE and prices are fair. I would also recommend the teas they have (Boba teas).

I have been here a handful of times, but every time I go the phone is great and so is the service. It's all at a great price, too.

I've been going here for years, way before they ever renovated the place. Lately I haven't been feeling it like I used to. I usually always get the number 42, with rice, a side of broth, pickled veggies, a grilled pork chop, a crunchy egg roll (lumpia style), and one chicken wing. If I don't want a rice platter that day, I'll get the Beef Curry Stew instead. Sometimes when I'm staaaaarvin' like marvin, I'll also get the soft spring rolls with the peanut sauce. You can never go wrong with that. Well today I didn't want rice, so I decided to get the Beef Curry Stew (Bo Kho) for $9.75 because they only have it in a large bowl. I've ordered this in the past and It always comes with the egg noodles, and that's mostly my favorite part because it goes so well with the rich, beefy, flavorful broth. This time they gave me regular pho noodles. I decided to complain on yelp instead of the owner who can be quiet aggressive and a bit of a DIVA sometimes, esp when you take your time looking at the menu. Sometimes I feel a bit rushed. It seems like his workers/servers are scared of him.. lmao. I always give my tips to them in hand, instead of the big glass jar in the front. Oh, and also make sure that you pay with CA$H because I went here one time w/ my friend and she tipped him $10 with the card and the total with tip came out to be $58 something but then on her statement, she saw that he decided to charge her an even $60. LOL. Anyway, getting a little AD..D here... back to the food. I can't believe he didn't give me my egg noodles. I guess I know now that I need to be more specific next time, if I decide to go back. Oh well it is what it is, and it ain't what it ain't. The last thing I wanna do is deal with the Diva behind the counter. All you newbies, get the soft spring rolls tho. You can't go wrong with that. Or you can get the lumpia (I think they call it crunch rolls). They give you like 4 for 4 bucks. I would go for the soft rolls because you can get a dozen lumpia for a price thats worth it at a simple Filipino restaurant in VA beach

I love noodle soup and Pho 78 fits the bill for me. Your typical Hampton Roads location...an older shopping center, but mostly clean place on the inside. Lots of different noodle options and fresh jalapeño peppers and bean sprouts to mix in. Perfect on fall or winter days, or when you just have a need for some noodle soup.

Very pleasantly surprised with finding this Pho restaurant in Virginia Beach. The moment I walked in the door, I could smell the comfort aroma of noodles and broth. Delicious pho and cordial staff. I will be coming back here again on a regular basis!

I'm still angry that my main pho joint closed. BUT... This place is an acceptable substitute when I can't shake the pho craving. The owner (manager, maybe?) is super sweet, he will make sure you are happy with your order. He'll make recommendations and suggestions, he'll give you little tips on how you should season and eat your meal. It's cute. I just go with it and let him tell me. I guess us white girls don't show our faces in here too often? The food is actually pretty dang good. It's seasoned well and the portions are legit. It comes out quick, and everything is fresh. Thinking about it makes me want pho. Overall, this has become my pho place of choice.

I believe another reviewer stated that their soups were an elixir from above when battling a cold and I couldn't back that any more. their broth is what sets them apart in my opinion. the service is always friendly and welcoming, the establishment is clean, and the food is always ready within minutes.

  • Krisha B.

My boyfriend and I are regulars here. We made the mistake of trying another Pho restaurant and not only was it more pricey at the other place, but it wasn't as great tasting. The restaurant is very clean, air conditioned (trust me, the other place we went to had no A/C and I felt like dying, we left right away!), and your food always comes out within a couple minutes. They have several big flat screen TVs which you can view from any seat in the restaurant so you can watch sports or whatever you'd like. Overall, its an awesome Pho restaurant with good service and I'll continue to come back.

I used to not like this place, but I was pleasantly surprised when I came here with friends. The service was great and the pho broth was really good. I also get the grilled pork bahn mi as my usual and it never disappoints!

The food was pretty good. The atmosphere is very strange. I think it's more of a vietnamese place. The manager/owner? seemed to want us to leave. I brought my husband in to try Pho and they were very unhelpful. I got the food to go because it seemed like we were upsetting the vibe by being there. The food was ok. Pho isnt as good to go.

Great phò, grilled porkchop was tasty, restaurant was clean but the spring rolls was a little bit off. Other than that, I'd recommend this place to anyone!

Great service & delicious food! It is by far the best pho I had since I moved out here.. My family & I ate twice in a week!

  • Sashi D.

The food here is delecious! Had the chicken breast, steamed rice, some broth soup. The chicken was amazing..tender and a subtle lemongrass flavor. The chicken however was very thin and I could have easily eaten more. My husband had pho with brisket ..he said it was also tasty..a bit spicy with the jalopeno. The service was not the best..I was rushed to make a decision on my entree choice.

This is by far the only Vietnamese restaurant I eat at in Hampton Roads. Everything tastes delicious and fresh. Goi Cuons are delicious and all the variety of soups I have ordered here are hot and tasteful.

If you haven't been here...well, you should re-evaluate your life!! Just kidding...but it is a really good place for Viet food. The host, Tri, (I hope I spelled that right) is seriously the host with the most. You'll know him when you see him, he's the sharp dressing guy with the mellow persona who works the counter, lol. He's always really friendly and engaging with people. Upon entering, you're always greeted within 30 seconds and brought to your seating area. They take a lot of care in helping you choose what you want if you're not familiar with Vietnamese food. Menu is easy to read and servers are informative. The restaurant itself is well lit and clean in the seating area, there are televisions as well, and it never seems to be a packed house...so you shouldn't have to wait long. I've always pretty much ordered the same thing (for take out) and it was consistently good. Pho is always hot, steaming, fresh and delicious. Take out was SUPER fast...I might have waited 5 minutes or so. Definitely worth the money and time to visit this establishment.

The wife and I have never had the privilege to try Vietnamese food. After reading the Yelp reviews, she was very adamant to try it. We were greeted immediately at the door, seated, and gave our drink orders (which was water) all literally within 30 seconds! When the water came back, a different waiter (who reminded me of a Chinese actor who's name escapes me at the moment) came and explained the menu. We settled on the chicken beef soup (sorry, forgot what it was actually called...something like chicken noodle soup with a beef base broth). We thought the food was "okay". Maybe we ordered the wrong thing, but we weren't impressed with the food. I can't explain why I didn't care for it. It wasn't bad food, it was just okay.

Hmm, let's see. Visa, Mastercard, and Cash accepted. Anything else, NO. Be prepared to sit with other people you don't know when it gets busy. No big deal though because if you got the Pho #5 ( or any of their Pho for that matter), you'll be too busy slurping with your head halfway inside the bowl (choose between a small or large). Their BROTH is FANTASIC-ALICIOUS! I've had many Pho in my days and the broth is definitely a deal breaker. But over here at 78, it's that good! I almost tipped that large bowl back and drank the damn thing. They didn't have any bahn mi though. Again, no big deal. It just makes it easier to order, not having to decide if I want one or the other or indulge the chubster in me and get 'em both. Want some Pho! Get it here. Do it... do it now. Happy Slurping. P.S. For those first timers, don't do what many others do and pour all the sauces you see on the table into your Pho! NO-NO! That will pollute the deliciousness of the beefy broth! That's what the little cups are for. Put whatever sauce (Hoisin, Srirarcha, Chili Garlic stuff) in it. Put said cup in one hand and you use your other hand to hold fork/chopstick as you gather some noodles, some meat, some Thai basil and then dip that gathering into cup to get it slathered and then straight into your mouth! MMmmmM! Followed by several spoonfuls of that broth to wash it all down. OMG. That's it. I'm going back today for dinner. See ya there!

I go here too often. Their pho vs Pho 79 is okay, but this is place have other options in their specialty soups section such as Bun Bo Hue and Bun Rieu - while Pho 79 is strictly pho. Not too sure why. I've tried pretty much all their offerings. However, their Bun Rieu is not that good to my taste, but that's because I grew up with a much more authentic and rich bowl of Bun Rieu where there are just more fresh ingredients and lots of crab etc. A bowl like that would cost too much. Again, I would say its the best in the area.

Fun fact: Pho is my comfort food. Another fun fact: I used to make Pho. Although no one seems to make the Pho Curry that introduced me to Pho, I have since upgraded to the real thing. Now I make sure to order whatever has the most animal parts, because ordering anything less would just be wasteful. But if it's your first time, I can understand easing yourself in with something a little safer coughchickencough. Pho 78 is definitely the best in the area, trust me, I've tried. Sure it's in a random shopping center, but they make the entryway look inviting. Yes, you kind of feel like you are dining in a school cafeteria when you check out your seating options. As soon as the delicious hot broth touches your lips you remember why you walked in the door. I cannot attest to anything else on their menu because once I walk in the door there's no way you're convincing me to try anything else.

This is my favorite go-to Pho restaurant in Hampton Roads. The service is quick, right when you walk in someone greets you and takes you to a table. The food comes out in a timely fashion. Always fresh and delicious. The pho broth is always more hearty and flavorful than other establishments that I've frequented. If you're new to Vietnamese cuisine, I recommend trying the Pho Tai.

Food was served fast and was fresh and delicious. Nothing fancy just simply delicious food. Service was great. Very friendly and attentive. My husband and I both ordered the vegetarian pho with tofu. It was delicious.. I couldn't keep the kids spoons out of my bowl. My son ordered a rice dish with beef and my daughter a noodle dish with beef and shrimp. Both children cleared their plates. It was a very lovely night out with the family. Can't wait to go back!

Delicious food and the staff is very attentive. Not bad on the wallet either. Our tab was a little over $30 and that included an order of spring rolls, pho, an entree, iced coffee and a kid's meal.

The pho was very flavorful, highly recommend. we also ordered seasoned pork chops with shredded pork, which came with a lot of tripe that I was not anticipating. The appetizer menu was rather small.

Their menu is extensive and the restaurant itself is pretty large. I was impressed when I saw their menu item choices but pretty disappointed when my round steak pho consisted almost entirely of fat and grizzle. That's just bad business. I had a giant mound of inedible junk piling up on my basil dish. I eat pho allllllllllllll the time- and I have never seen that!

I used to love this place, my family has been coming here since it opened so many years ago. I recently came back because my grandpa wanted to come here to get his beloved pork chop with rice.. however we were both seriously let down. He didn't get a pork chop, he got 2 measly slices of what looked like jerky with some kind of sauce slathered on top with a scoop of rice and a sprinkle of pickled veggies. What used to be his favorite dish that he could barely finish became a snack that he finished in 15 minutes, complaining afterwards that he was still hungry. :( My noodle dish wasn't very filling either. +2 for the service, the owner has always been very nice all these years and food has always come out very quickly. But maybe it comes out quick because there is so little of it..

On cold days this place hits the spot! The decor is clean and spacious. The walls are filled with wonderful black & white images. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. Spring rolls are a must, but i did notice the peanut sauce is a bit thicker than other places. Mix it with some Siracha and it really doesn't matter after that! My go to pho has everything in it. Its flavor full packed with meat. Order a bahn mi to go with it and its complete!

I've been here many times now and it's never disappointed. It's a family business owned by a couple of brothers. From what I can tell they all work there. They work well together and the service is excellent. I am always immediately seated and asked what I want to drink. I generally come for dinner, but the lunch crowd is about the same. I usually go here for the Pho so I'll start with that. It is definitely filling and I get a little heartburn trying to eat all of the small bowl. I get the tai, nam, sach (forgive me if I get the English names wrong. Someone who knows Vietnamese can correct me: rare beef, brisket, and tripe) and there is always plenty of meat. There is plenty of noodles, too. Their rice dishes are also delicious. Some of the best around. They don't try to compensate for the lack of meat/veggies by giving you massive amounts of rice. There's no need to since, like their Pho, there is plenty of meat. I got the Bun Bo Hue once and that was just ok. It was a little greasy and bland. Not many places make this dish well though. Or maybe I'm just partial to home cooking. I'll try it again one of these days and give you guys an update. Ok, now my favorite thing about this restaurant? They serve che (bean pudding). I LOVE the stuff and many of the pho restaurants around here doesn't have it. They do go a little overboard on the crushed ice, but I can deal with that. The bean is never overcooked, the gelatin is not smushy, and the coconut sauce is yummy. So, yay! I'm a fan.

Quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants. I recently found out I am gluten intolerant and vietnamese food is one of the few naturally gluten free foods. Not to mention the service is wonderful.

I feel like normally i would have given this place a 3 but it just doesn't feel right. Most people had the meatball soup. About 60/40 asian/american split. The pho tai wasnparticularly greasy :( the noodles were ok, though the broth fould have been a good deal warmer. The meat was a bit sparse and they charged 50 cent extra for meat on the side! Grrrr. The iced coffee was pretty blech. Cant tell you why, but it just tasted off. Like it was creamy enough but the mixture didnt work. The summer rolls were really meh. The lettuce wasnt green, the wrapper was coming apart and the fish sauce was standard from the bottom of a can. The one positive to the place was how the meat on the side was presented. It was pretty and well sliced. Unfortunately this is a pho joint and i care least of all about presentation. Heck! Serve it to me in a trough and id be happy!

We've been going here for 6.5 years now. Yes, Tri can be a bit biotchy. The food is good...but you better have a gallon of water ready after you leave because all that MSG will SUCK YOU DRY. Our kids and I are huge fans of the meatballs. I haven't found anywhere that serves better meatballs...although it's rumored that they're not homemade...which means I need to find out where they buy them from! **I found out...you can buy them @ Four Seasons!** We moved away from the area for 3 years and came back in Dec '08. They've definitely classed it up and it's really clean and pleasant...not your run of the mill hole-in-the-wall pho places. We attempted to try Pho 79 when our daughter was a newborn...but the cigarette smoke was a no-go...and we never went back. We gave Saigon #1 a go but weren't too impressed. The food is fresh and the service is FAST (maybe not the most courteous...but FAST). You need to ask for refills. But other than that...it's your typical pho place...just not as dingy.

The Pho was average, my wife's biggest complaint was that the broth tasted fishy when she ordered Chicken Pho. Almost like they add fish sauce to their broth and serve it with every order. She liked their shrimp spring rolls through. This place was fast, 7 mins out the door.

There are quite a few Vietnamese restaurants in the area but this is the one I love the most. Friendly service and great food.

We went here for the first time maybe two weeks ago. The "small" pho was flavorful, filling, and had tons of meat in it (which makes me feel like I've been ripped off at pho places in the past). My husband got the vermicelli with pork and spring rolls, which he said was also delish. Service was great as well, and you really can't beat the price. If you've just moved here or love Vietnamese food in general, give this place a shot!

BEST Vietnamese place I have ever eaten. my wife ordered the Pho#2 (veggies w/ fried tofu) and I had the Pho #24 (a pho curried beef stew) and they were both fantastic. I also have been desperately wanting bahn mi. I was disappointed that I didn't see a bahn mi section, however, at the bottom of the last page of the menu, they had grilled sandwiches for 4.50!!! What a steal. I ordered the pork sandwich and it was excellent! We also took our 8 month old son and their staff was terrific with him!

This is the BEST Pho in Hampton Road. Hands down. It's also very quick and affordable. The place is simply decorated, but clean, and all the workers are nice and efficient. If you go often enough, they will be friendly with you. You can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Pho, Bun (Vermicelli bowls), or any of the grilled meat and rice plates. I come from California, where Vietnamese food is a-plenty. So trust me on this. Also, the Pho has more ingredients in them than other Pho restaurants in the area.

OK this review is an update on service but the food review still stands at 5 stars but I would suggest take out to avoid the owner's attitude. This comment is in regards to how we were treated by the owner (the well dressed guy with the bad hair piece who is always there and I'm assuming is the owner). The is the best Pho in town, so I happily took my out of town guests here for dinner. We had children in our party who ordered bubble tea in a flavor that they did not like once they got it and their mom concurred that the flavor wasn't right. The owner came over - took the lid off and stuck a spoon in it and tasted it. Seriously! Then pronounced that it tasted fine, but jerked up the 2 cups. He copped a huge attitude and was rude to us for the rest of the evening. It was extremely unpleasant and ruined our dinner. So heads up - and he cannot be avoided because he is always there. Everything is fine if you take what they serve you but again the service is creepily attentive and they act as if they want you out ASAP.

My favorite Pho place! Yes, I know it's not the greatest pho, (personally I feel like their taste and quality had slipped down from the previous years) their food is still pho-esque. The owner of this place is hilarious. He's such a hater. If you don't tip or tip well, he will talk about you, just a fair warning. On occasion, they do forget to refill your water, so just be prepared to ask for it especially if you use a lot of sriracha. The owner and servers are Vietnamese so there is some language barrier there. As for the food, their chicken pho was always my favorite. They do serve Com Suon with prawns and their bi cuon is amazing! At least back when I use to be able to eat pork, it was my number one choice for appetizer then my pho ga. Prices is muy cheap also. I always suggest this place for some quick cheap grub.

I really enjoy the ambiance of this restaurant, it's pretty inside and it seems like they wanted to make an Asian themed place to eat that wasn't overwhelming. I enjoy their variety of drinks the most at this Vietnamese restaurant, they are also delicious and freshly made. Their Pho and Vermicelli are usually good, but it's not going to blow your socks off. They have great appetizers and can accommodate a large group of people.

Great food and service. I was served by who I think is the owner. He was very respectful and very polite. A pointer to everyone: don't order your main meal soon after you have ordered your appetizer or you'll pretty much get them at the same time -I had fresh spring rolls as appetizer and Phô as main course-. The boba is good but I've had better

I stumbled upon this place while I was on vacation in Virginia Beach and craving pho. I ate there on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was 90% full. There was a slight wait for a table/menus as there were only about 2 waiters working. We started with the spring rolls and they were just okay. They were filled with a lot of vegetables and not enough meat. Also, mint was not provided with the spring rolls which was a bit disappointing. The pho was excellent though! I ordered the pho with beef balls and the broth was so delicious and HOT. The beef balls were of a higher quality than you would find in other Vietnamese restaurants so that was very nice. Too bad there isn't one of these in New Jersey because if there was, I would definitely dine there often.

Best Pho in town I've tried severel places and these guys are the best! I never had Vietnamese food before moving here, never thought I'd like it either? Now I love me some #22 chicken based soup with silontro and lime very good! And these guys are always friendly and have very good customer service.. Thank you pho 78!

I don't go here often, but every time I walk in, they greet me like I'm a regular. Very friendly and very attentive. I'll start by saying that I'm not that fond of their Pho. It's not that it's bad, but there are other places in the area that I think have a better soup base. Pho recipes for successful restaurants are very closely guarded secrets. And you can tell a big difference in taste from place to place if you eat enough of it. So I won't say that their Pho is bad; I just prefer having Pho in other restaurants. What I do love here are the Vermicelli Noodle salads. With Grilled Pork. Overflowing with greens, noodles, and absolutely delicious grilled pork chunks drenched in spicy fish sauce. With a side of crispy spring rolls wrapped in lettuce leaves dipped in more spicy sauce. That's what I love here. So if I'm in the mood for Pho, I have other places to go to. But when I crave a bowl of Vietnamese happiness that isn't Pho, I'm here.

The Grilled Pork rice was ok. It was a little too salty. Thai tea was good, but it had a little of bitterness. My boyfriend got pho and the broth tasted pretty good. You might just wanna go here for the PHO. Overall experience, not impressed.

I'm a big fan of Pho 78! I've tried other Pho restaurants in the area that were not up to par with what I'm used to (which is traditional Vietnamese Pho). With that being said, I was in the market to find a Pho restaurant that met my desires. I ran a search on Yelp and found Pho 78 which is tucked inside a strip mall behind Mt. Trashmore. I don't believe I would have found this restaurant on my own without the help of Yelp, and I'm very pleased and have been back several times since. The restaurant is very clean and open, the manager (which I think might be the owner as well) was friendly and polite, and the service is extremely fast! Most importantly, the Pho is wonderful, the prices are cheap and it met all of my expectations. I ordered the shredded Chicken Pho, which is all white-meat, and comes paired with a side of fixings to add as you like. I also tried the spring rolls and they are fabulous! I will continue to happily dine here for my next Pho-fix!

I have eaten at this restaurant for years and my experiences have always been pleasant. I've tried multiple dishes there but the SOUP brings me back. I could easily eat there weekly, but don't. I want every time to be special (so I go 5-6 times per year). I LOVE adding the bean sprouts, jalapeños, mint and some hot sauce to the soup. It just does me good. There's something about adding those jalapeños to the steaming hot broth that just pops. The Thai tea is tastefully delightful and a must experience. I'm getting hungry thinking about it now and I'm not hungry the least. I returned to this restaurant tonight 7:30ish. Flamboyant Guy didn't greet me, instead a young guy and then another guy. Once seated, I noticed the name on menu was different... 'It's Un Pho gettable'. I questioned new ownership and/or name change and the young guy said no. I ordered #9 pho soup... $7.75 rare steak and well done flank. I had the spring rolls $3.45 and thai tea $3.25. The tea was also served with a glass of water. The food was out fast, in like 5-6 minutes and the spring rolls were huge and fresh. I immediately added the bean sprouts, basil and jalapeños to the hot soup along with sririachi sauce. The steaming hot soup blended the flavors and the familiar aroma was awesome. The peanut sauce with the spring rolls was so tasty and the combination of food made my day. No water refills offered but thankfully I didn't need one. With tax a little over $15. Hands down the best Pho place around. and btw, the older cook that's been there forever finally came out from the back. I spoke to him for a moment. Then a different guy rang up my bill. He confirmed the name change and new ownership but no details. WHAT? No more Mr Flamboyant ???

I tried so many Pho restaurant and this place is the best in all places. I come here atleast twice a week and love it. I always get #4 and #42 for my husband. Kids love the kids meal chicken with rice. And last thing we always ordered the fresh spring roll. I will keep coming back no doubt!!

This is my go to place for pho and other vietnamese food. Big fan of combo no. 42! Great place to go everytime i've gone in it's always been calm and homey in there. Servers might be alittle raw but the cashier/order taker makes up for it. That guy is hoot!

Broth was good but not great. I think I may simply have chosen poorly, though. It was very hard for me to intelligently assess, since I was a tidge under the weather. It's possible I just missed out on some wonderful aromatics.

One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the area. My husband loves their Pho and I love their Thit Bo Kho. We get the same exact things every single time we go. The owner there has such a wonderful personality and adds so much color to this restaurant. He is always very polite and interactive. I hate that I live so far from this place.

My husband loves pho so once we were settled in VA after moving from Texas I decided to check Yelp reviews for pho restaurants. This place was a hit, I love the broth of the soup and their spring rolls are delicious. I know that this is a place we will often visit.

The service was excellent and I was greeted as soon as I opened the door. I didn't like the pho. The broth had a strong licorice taste and smell. I am not a fan of licorice so wanted to let others know. The lemongrass chicken was pretty good. They were out of bubble tea so I can't review that item. Establishment was very clean. I prefer Saigon 1 instead.

So, this place is named Pho 78 because there are 78 items on their menu. Can't decide if I can consider it clever, or lazy. Best name still goes to San Diego's "Pho-King". Those who know how to pronounce pho, will appreciate it. Pho 78's staff was friendly and my choices were brought out very quickly. The pho itself was decent, I was disappointed by the spring rolls however. They didn't have that fresh made crunch that I look for in a good spring roll. This is an okay place for a rainy day.

Good Pho-Bad service. That being said I will go back. The poor service I can ignore, good food I cannot, will not and should not. I actually happened to see Pho 78 from the corner of my eye, whilst driving to my Hotel. It is easy to spot from the street, parking is a breeze. I got the Pho with the thin beef slices, tripe, and meatball. The broth was super delicious! The meat to broth to noodle ratio was good, not too much of anything. The fresh herbs they bring to the table are clean. The tips of the bean sprouts were trimmed! I was very impressed. I saw one of the fellow diners eat a Bahn Mi (Vietnamese sandwich), they didn't have it on the menu though...oh well next time. For sure there will be a next time.

It's the best pho I have tried in Virginia. I didn't think there were any out here. I'm excited there is. I really enjoyed the rare steak pho, I got alot of steak and it was super delicious. It's worth trying. This place is also very clean and relaxing.

Went for lunch today - my friend had a #3 Pho with well-done brisket and I had a #5 Pho with rare steak, flank and tendon. I wouldn't recommend #5 - shame on me for not realizing that tendon is basically fat. The broth was wonderful. My friend noticed some 'brisket' in her soup that didn't really look like brisket - she tossed it to the side. It looked like octopus, brains or ???? something. I'm happy the server kept my water glass filled but for some reason he didn't seem like he was having a good day. Not at all friendly. This was my 1st experience eating Pho - next time I'll try Pho 79 - and get the veggie with tofu.

There aren't too many places to enjoy pho in the VB area, so it's good that Pho 78 is around. The place is spacious, has a TV to enjoy a game playing, and it offers a while variety of Vietnamese food on their menu. However, if you come to this place and have tried Vietnamese restaurants in the DMV area or Richmond area, please do not have high expectations!! Pho is not bad, but I don't recommend getting their egg noodle with chicken soup. The chicken pieces are too big and the broth isn't as great, even if you dress it up with hoisen/sriracha. Although I've definitely had better pho, I have no complaints for the beef pho.. One more quick tip, if you want to add the small portion of meat (which they have a choice for it and should not be that expensive) to your meal, sometimes they all the large portion and end up charging you. It's slightly my fault because I didn't know the difference between the small portion vs. large portion, but I specifically ordered the smaller portion. I think it was a language barrier.

  • Terrance S.

Not too bad a place, and definitely far better and more welcoming on the inside than (what I believe to be) their competitor, Pho 79, on Virginia Beach Blvd. There's something that I prefer about Pho 79, though. I'm not entirely sure, really, but it could be something as asinine as the fact that Pho 79 gives you your soft drinks from the fountain as compared with Pho 78's can-along-with-a-cup practice, or maybe it's just the Pho in general, I dunno. Still, not bad. Especially for the price.

I have tried many pho restaurants in Northern Virginia, and I think Pho 78 triumphs all of them in quality of food. The noodles were lively and broth was crisp and abundant of meats. It was evident that the grease was taken out of the broth as well. However, the gentlemen who seemed to be the owner gave us a bad service as if he was not satisfied with how my family and I ordered only four "small" bowls and didn't want any appetizers that he asked everyone about.

I live near and visit frequently. I always get the pho, which is the best you will find in hampton roads. The interior is newly renovated with soft lighting and has a very clean feeling. The owner is almost always present and is very friendly. Sundays can be absurdly busy.

first of all i don't come here for the pho. i get the rice dish or banh mi. i've had their pho, and i don't enjoy it. it just lacks flavor...perhaps a flavor that i prefer from san diego pho, or everett, washington pho....but i just don't like the pho broth/soup here. they don't have banh mi on the menu...but you can order it...it's good. it could always use extra spice (have you read my other posts on spiciness) -- add some sriracha, add some garlic chili paste, add some jalapeno, and i'm good to go. they have chicken, pork, or beef. i get the chicken. love the spices they use on the chicken and it's char grilled. YUM! their rice plates are good also....although i don't enjoy the julienne pork. but the chicken or pork chop dish is good. you'll get a bowl of the pho broth...which oddly is good with this. so perhaps it's the noodles making the pho, blah. they also have boba here. VB has yet to offer me a boba/pearl tea place that i enjoy. they either cook the boba too long or not long enough. the fruit mixes or the thai tea is good...but i don't like their boba. the summer rolls are good, but not rolled/packed as tightly as i'd like so it doesn't fall apart. their (fried) spring rolls are good, and come out quickly. ONE thing i do NOT like here --- the garlic chili paste in a squeeze bottle. it looks and sounds gross coming out. i try to push it out of my mind each time, but it forces it's way to my consciousness. why can't they just use the bowl with a tiny spoon scoop!? service is friendly and fast. restaurant is clean, bathroom is clean.

We had switched allegiance to Pho 78 from Pho 79 for quite some time now, but haven't written a review until now. First off, their space is much nicer and cleaner than the other place in VB. The service is ok, pretty typical of asian eateries, and really depends on the waiter. We've never had any problem getting refills, more noodles, or anything else. I find that their Pho and non Pho selections are more plentiful than 79, and frankly, taste better. The broth is richer and more flavorful without leaving that MSG dry mouth feeling after downing the bowl. Not to say they use or don't use MSG. Never asked... The meat to noodle ratio in their Pho and other noodle dishes is generous, and the freshness of the meat and herbs is consistent. Their herb plate is always fresh and they won't hesitate to bring out more sprouts, basil or limes if needed. The other offerings include rice dishes, other regional noodle dishes, spring rolls and the crispy egg rolls, and even Bahn Mi (Vietnamese subs filled with grilled pork, chicken, etc., although these are not listed on the menu). As others have mentioned, their iced coffee is good. They also have jelly drinks and boba drinks on the menu as well, which i prefer over the bubble tea place in the mall. This place meets all of our expectations for good pho, and have become our standby dinner spot when the craving hits.

I started going to this place when it was still pretty new. I never expect much service from Vietnamese restaurants to be honest. I hated that they never refilled your drinks and how the guy in the flamboyant shirts gives you the stank face and doesnt say bye but the food was good so it was the only thing that kept me coming back. A couple years down the road the man in the flamboyant shirts started saying hello and bye. He also does this weird thing where he hands you your credit card with both hands and says, "sign for me please" sometimes I can't even get his voice out of my head for am entire day. Food was still good and they started refilling drinks. Bravo bc the other pho places don't refill, except for Saigon and I definitely like them better except theyre kind of far from me. OK so here's the reason they get a 1 star. Their yummy food will not save them this time. Me and my hubby ordered 2 orders of fried egg rolls. We wait and wait and then were done with our pho...30 minutes later and after absolutely no refills we still didn't get our egg rolls. So I'm like okay they must have forgotten because they're sooooooo busy(not!) so I ask the man in the flamboyant shirt to take the orders off because we didn't get our egg rolls. Initially he apologizes and goes in the back to throw a b fit. He knows were regulars so I figured he would go make us some and give it for free or something. At least that's what I would do for regulars. But nope. Instead this flamboyant shirt wearing man has the audacity to say, "you should have reminded us. Next time you need to tell me sooner." keep in mind those were his exact words. When you go out to eat you pay for someone get your order right, bring you the food, and fill your drinks at the least. Needless to say, I have never and will never go back to pho 78. I would rather go to pho 79 where I get ignored but still get good food instead of going to some place that will insult me for their mistakes.

Grew up in a Vietnamese community where we have a little Saigon, so I know what Pho is suppose to taste like. I like it so much that I married a Vietnamese guy =0p Anyways moving on... We just got here today and traveled a long distance. My husband and I were super hungry and I really wanted Vietnamese food (I always want Vietnamese food) so I searched Vietnamese restaurants and found a couple in the VB area. We were really hungry so I had my husband find one that was close to where we are staying at and Pho 78 was the winner. Pho 78 is located in a shopping center next to a nail salon and a Vietnamese supermarket (Awesome!! We went into this market after we ate =0) ) Anyways, we got sat right away and both my husband and I ordered the Dac Biet which is Pho with all the meats- beef, tripe, tendon, and meatball. Very good broth!! I enjoyed the bowl very much so! With my bowl, I had an ice coffee and my husband had a drink called Soda Chanh which is a lime soda drink. I want to come back to try their other items on the menu. =0)

I eat a lot of Pho bottom line. The Pho here was fantastic. Great broth, great cuts of meat. Nicer restaurant than I am used to eating Pho but wouldn't ding them on it. The Summer Rolls were good too and the service was excellent.

I've been going to this place for years. I tookmy lunch breaks here, taken friends here that want to try pho for the first time, and have eaten dinner here mulitple times. The setting is a really nice... not your typical viet restaurant. The only thing I do not like is the service by the owner/manager/waiter guy (he's the older gentleman with the funky hair do that welcomes you in). You have to constantly bug for water refills and he doesn't remember me even though I've been going there for years. If the pho and spring rolls weren't good then I would have dumped this place a while ago. THE FOOD IS DA FREAKIN' BOMB, so that's why I keep coming. I hope he is reading this.

I thought this place was yummy. I went with a friend for my first time and I enjoyed it. The fresh spring rolls are so good, I could eat it all day. The pho was delicious too. For the Pho, i asked for the small portion and it was the perfect size for me. The staff was also really nice and helpful too. I plan on going back.

I am from Boston where there's plenty of Pho restaurants so I am really picky when it comes to pho. my mom makes the best pho though, hands down. Thank god for yelp because i read the reviews for this place before putting the address in the gps. It was like everyone said delicious! The place looks modern and very clean. the service was great but that may be because we were one of three tables. the waiter knew enough english and vietnamese to communicate with us. I tried the pho tai sach, which was kind of on the cooler side. my friend had the pho dac biet and hers was really good. my other friend had the hu tieu nam van (sea food soup with the pho noodles) her broth was amazing i have to say. we got vietnamese coffee and everybody asked for less condensed milk than normal and got it exactly done like that. DELISH! the soda xi mui was really carbonated and salty (some places use flat soda water). i would've liked to go back to try the rice dishes but we just didnt have enough time. we went around 11am on a sunday and by 12 the place was full of big parties. REAL good quality food

Who cares about service? They are nice & efficient. That's all I need. Besides how many Pho places have you been to with 5 star service? The food is hot, fresh, tasty, and comforting. Their basil & bean sprouts are fresh. The interior is clean and much has more atmosphere than the other big Pho place in town. Their iced coffee is awesome! Like some of the other reviewers mentioned...this place is just as good as some of the better places in NoVA.

we've only just been introduced to Pho... and this is the 3rd place we've tried. it was very good, very filling. husband had the #1 (which i'm unsure exactly what it was) and i had the #22 which was chicken in chicken broth... i think there could have been some more meat, or maybe cut a little bit smaller, just to make it a little easier to eat and last a little longer... husband loved his... he got the large and it filled him to overfull... i got the small and it was a perfect serving... i also added a touch of hoisin and chili paste and it was just great. my only reason for not giving it 5 stars is the flies. they were everywhere!! buzzing around our heads and such - it was quite annoying. and also - the spoons were not all clean... and since there were flies landing all over the place, i dug down into the stack to get some not contaminated and found a few dirty ones... but, otherwise, the food is good, the prices are good we're thinking of just getting it to go next time

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in VA Beach! They make some of the best Pho noodle soups I've ever had in the U.S. The staff has always been friendly over the many years I've been going and I have developed a very nice acquaintance with the manager there. I often come in for dinner and watch Jeopardy and him and I talk about all kinds of things when he's not busy. These people care about the customers and take pride in what they make and how they serve. Wonderful place! I strongly recommend the Southern Region Soup (S3 on the menu) with the egg, tofu, crab and shrimp. Such a wonderful blend of flavors! Or the julienned pork dish. I come here once a week, its such a treat every time!

I ordered pho number 1 small bowl it was really good. I haven't tried anything else on there menu but as far as pho its good. The services don't expect anything because your lucky if they ever come back to ask you if you need anything but that typical when you eat at these place. Bad service but good pho.

The place is very clean and well decorated. The staff is friendly and service is great. I have been to a lot of Pho's in the Maryland and Northern Virginia area and this place is just as good or even better. Everything there seems very fresh and I had a great experience.

I love Pho and have been fortunate enough to locate Pho just about every where I've traveled to. This place was average, the soup is a little darker than DC area Pho, still had all the MSG and beef taste in it. Good place to visit for a quick Pho fix.
